Rod Parkzin: 2016 BMW 3 Series Touring Facelift

The 2016 BMW 3 Series Touring Facelift has been spied undergoing testing alongside the 3 Series Sedan facelift at the legendary Nurburgring track.

Both the sedan and touring are due for a refresh this summer, with most of the changes happening under the hood and under the car. Design wise, the spy photos reveal a subtle nip & tuck for the 3 Series touring, which just as the sedan model, will get new LED headlights and taillights, as well as different graphics in the rear.

Other design updates include small changes to the front and rear bumpers, and to the kidney grille. Inside, the trim and colors will get refreshed, and BMW will include the new iDrive Touch Controller.

All versions of the BMW 3 Series facelift will also benefit from a new suspension tuning, which will provide even more dynamic driving without compromising comfort. Minor updates are to be expected with optional equipment and control systems.

The new B47 four-cylinder diesel turbo will debut under the hood of the 316d, 318d and 320d models. The B57 six-cylinder diesel unit won’t arrive until the G11 7 Series launches, so the 330d and 335d xDrive will continue to use the N57 powerplant.

The biggest update coming with the facelift is the introduction of BMW 3 Series plug-in hybrids. Sold as BMW 330e or 328E, the hybrid uses a four-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor that provides a system output of 245 hp and comes with a fuel consumption of 2.1 liters per 100 kilometers.

Even though not confirmed by BMW NA, we expect the 328d xDrive Sports Wagon to remain in the U.S. fleet.
