Crossover SUVs are becoming a huge trend in the auto industry these days. The style and convenience it brings encourages more and more families and individuals to purchase this type of Sport Utility Vehicle.

CarBuzz.com for instance shared that Crossover SUVs may soon take over Europe.  AutoGlass Safety Council

“Anyone who pays even a bit of attention to the US auto industry knows one thing: The rise of the crossover/SUV cannot be stopped. Americans have ditched small cars, hatchbacks and wagons for jacked-up car-based mall crawlers. But Europe isn’t America. They love hatches and wagons there. Surely CUVs and SUVs will never rule…right? Wrong. In an interview with Automotive News Europe, Nissan Europe’s head of sales, Guillaume Cartier, says that he sees crossovers and SUVs outselling hatchback, wagons and sedans before 2020.”

More SUV Crossovers Invading the Market

The website Cartoq.com meanwhile gave a closer look at existing and soon-to-be-launched crossovers in the market. Windshield Wiki

“The Datsun GO range currently has two models: the GO hatchback and the GO+ MPV. A new redi-GO hatchback will be added but on the other end of the spectrum, the GO+-based GO Cross will ensure the brand’s presence in the sub-compact SUV market. Engine options are yet to be finalised but the 1.2-liter petrol and the 1.5-liter diesel (from the Micra) are likely to be included. In terms of looks, if the concept is anything to go by, it will surely attract a lot of buyers.”

Bloomberg meanti9me published a review of an electric crossover SUV.

“Push on the gas pedal, and the car surges forward like a rocket in a silent movie—pure thrust, no rattle. Tesla has used much of the suspension, acceleration, and power technology from the excellent Model S, plus variable ratio technology that adjusts steering to your driving style and terrain. If you have driven the sedan, the crossover, while taller, feels very similar in its finesse. And yes, the $10,000 Ludicrous Mode power-up is totally worth it.  The engine-less ride is quiet, so quiet, in fact, that at 40 mph with the windows up, I could hear crickets and frogs one night driving near Big Sur. The panoramic windshield that extends from chest level over and behind my head held a panoply of stars. When you operate the Model X, you’re piloting a piece of technology rather than driving a car. Everything else feels analog.”

The World of Tiny Cars

Mini-Ride

Tiny car

Small ride, fun ride. (Photo Credits)

Tiny cars may not carry much but they have their own set of advantages. They are easy to maneuver, less gasoline consumption, and at the same time, and they are not too hard to find a parking space for.    AutoGlass Safety Council

Speed Society featured in one of its post tiny yet powerful engines that power up small cars. Windshield Wiki

“When it comes to tiny scaled machines we just can’t help but be interested in the craftsmanship that is involved in putting these things together. We take, for example, this collection of tiny little engines that could be put to use to power just about anything that your mind can dream up – as long as it isn’t too large, that is. With everything from a traditional 6-cylinder replica to a W9 style engine, this collection lays out some of the neatest miniature engines ever created.”

Disney for its part commissioned the p[production of a tiny car that can even go up against a wall, as reported by the website The Verge.

“Disney’s research arm has been quietly churning out impressive, occasionally unnerving experiments for some time now, and its latest is a particularly inspired bit of engineering: a small, four-wheeled robot with the uncanny ability to climb up walls. The robot, VertiGo, was created through a partnership between Disney Research Zurich and the university ETH Zurich. By rolling up to a wall and adjusting two propellers attached to it, the robot can climb up and continue moving at a surprisingly brisk pace.”

The website ForgotToThink.com meantime featured what seemed to be a tiny car, but is an equally impressive vehicle.

“Mikael loves riding bikes, but sometimes the harsh Swedish weather makes it impossible. So, he set out to design something that would work in any climate condition. After some trial and error, Mikael came up with “PodRide,” a four-wheeled bicycle with a covered body to keep the driver warm and safe from the elements. What makes this little vehicle so unique, however, is that the body makes it look like a small, one-person car traveling on the road. It’s so convincing that, at first glance, you probably wouldn’t even be able to tell that it was a bike.”

When to replace windshield wipers

The importance of regularly replacing windshield wipers

Wiper

Regularly replace them. (Photo Credits)

Windshield wipers are very important in ensuring a safe drive during the rainy and snowy weather.

Wipers, like any other car part or accessory are also subject to wear and tear and would need to be regularly replaced? But how does a vehicle owner know when it is time to replace his windshield wipers?

The Journal says it should be replace at least twice a year.

“IT IS RECOMMENDED that you replace your wiper blades every six months to a year. However, they should be replaced once the blades start squeaking, streaking or scratching or if the rubber feels dry, hard or cracked. Worn wiper blades not only hamper visibility in heavy downpours but are also a common point of failure on the NCT, so it pays to change them.”

Replacing windshield wiper blades

Apart from remembering when to replace wiper blades, choosing what to replace it with could also be tricky. Top Gear Philippines laid out some options in one of its posts. AutoGlass Safety Council

“A recent innovation, the frameless beam-type or banana-type wiper, as pioneered by manufacturers like Bosch, uses a springy rubber arm that provides more even pressure across the entire blade than a spring-loaded tree. Along with a durable silicone blade, these give a very even wipe and last much longer than a traditional wiper. Be warned, however, that cheaper brands often use softer arms, which can flap at speed. And no-name knock-offs sometimes come with brittle plastic adapters, which can break and cause the entire blade to fly off on the highway. Otherwise, beam-type wipers are a great upgrade, with their sleek, aerodynamic looks and superior wiping action.”

WKYC meantime gave a lowdown on how to replace wipers.

“A major difference with these alternative styles is that you replace the entire wiper — arguably that’s a do-it-yourself project, but some styles are very difficult to deal with. The simplest types require just a pinch to release, or they may have a very visible button. Trickier systems may hide their release tab. Don’t sweat it; your mechanic can handle this for you, or national auto parts store chains are usually happy to send someone out to the parking lot to help install your newly purchased blades.”

When cockroaches start to infest a car. (Photo Credits)

Cockroaches are so gross, and what could even be more hair-raising is being inside a vehicle that is infested with roaches. AutoGlass Safety Council

The website All Singapore Stuff published a letter from one of its contributors about finding what seems to be a village of roaches all inside just one car.

“I set a cockroach trap on the floor of my front passenger seat hoping to catch 1 or 2 creepy crawlies after I saw a few insects running about in my car. To my shock, when I removed the trap one month later, there was a village of cockroaches found in the trap. There were 11 to 12 media roaches and many other small little baby ones.”

Pandan leaves, cockroach trap (various types and brands), cockroach spray, park car under the hot sun, thorough vacuuming, etc, etc believe me, we have tried all means. Every time we did something, the number of cockroaches reduced, but after a while they come back, and the cycle repeats. We now restrict them to eat in the car as much as possible and this really helps a lot.”
