With summer just around the corner, unless you live in Chicago, we’re starting to look at the best BMW for a road trip across America. An East Coast to West Coast trip is one of those things that should be one everyone’s bucket list, the 3,000 miles trip offers great roads and sights that are hard to find anywhere in the world. From the Appalachians, Mississippi river, Great Plains to the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, California Coast and Big Sur.
A similar trip was taken by Precision Sport Industries with their Sakhir Orange BMW F82 M4 that can only be described as breathtaking. From the hot desert in Nevada all the way across Utah mountains, back to Florida, this was one amazing road trip to say the least. They did it in a BMW M4, not the most comfortable cruiser, but fun nonetheless.
While there are many other potential road trip scenarios, the idea of coming from one ocean to the other is something completely over the top.
So what’s the best BMW to use for this road trip? For me, there is simply only one option, the E30 M3; its allure and heritage, combined with the raw power and old school mechanics, make it a suitable car for a trip across US.
No real luxury inside the car, no fancy gadgets, sans a tape player, but a pure M3 that will connect you with the road and its surroundings.
